Welcome to our Institute Alternativa

The Institute was founded in in 2009 in skopje, Republic of North Macedonia, as a professional organization with specific activities dedicated to the promotion, development and implementation of educational programs based on family and systemic psychotherapy, culturally and gender sensitive, for professionals from various humanities. In addition, the Institute is committed to implementing evidence-based systemic interventions and consultative activities in the understanding of human behavior, as well as in the organization and functioning of different human systems in different contexts.

In 2011 the Institute alternativa was accredited by EFTA (european association for family therapy) and in 2013 by EAP (european association for psychotherapy) as a european accredited training Institute for psychotherapy (EAPTI).

Institute Alternativa develops other programs and activities, locally and nationally, in cooperation with the psychological counceling center and the ngo alternativa: project for the prevention of domestic violence against women and children (financed by the ministry of labor and social policy) and works with marginalized and vulnerable groups in different contexts (sos children’s village, lgbt+ community, refugees; partners in crisis; family systems in and after divorce, etc.)

The Institute, as a member of an international consortium, has been working for several years on research projects funded by the european commission, with the aim of promoting and improving the mental health of children and adolescents and reducing violence against them, by improving and expanding parental knowledge and skills:

    • RISE project – Prevention of child mental health problems in Eastern Europe – Adapt, Optimize, Test, and Extend Parenting for Lifelong Health (2018-2022) and
    • FLOURISH project – Family-Focused Adolescent & Lifelong Health Promotion – Prevention of adolescent mental health problems in Eastern Europe (2023-2026)
